Lake Reflection Landscape – Phuket
Lake reflection always is favour subject for the photographer, so am I. A polyline across the image, look like a book, photo with double image at different direction. It can be extremely rewarding and produce stunning results. But they is not as easy as it looks, you need put more patience, planning, creativity, try different angles and some of the lake.
In Phuket, consists of a lot of lakes, some are abandoned and few of it to build as a park. And also found some lake in front of the house, most of it decorates to become a fish farm. When windless, the surface of the water just looks like a big mirror, reflects surrounding objects as a shadow image.
Roadside Lake Reflection
I encounter a roadside lake, pass by everyday, but now only stop the car to photograph. Today is a cloudy sky, on the evening also can’t see any sunlight. But the landscape still attracted me to take a shot.
Lakeside Kiosk Beside House
Some lake appears beside of the house, that is fishing farm. Most of it always built with a small kiosk lakeside, mostly for gathering and fishing purpose. Sometimes they also will have the BBQ party at the small pavilion.
Wooden Boat – Water Reflection
They have a place in Phuket, people scarce come to this secret beach, called Ao Yon Beach. Nearby here surrounded by forest as well as waterfalls and plenty of scenic spots. The water of the waterfall was flowing into the sea by a small river. So I found this wooden boat beside the small river.
I visit Ao Yon beach on hot season, due to less rain, waterfall was no more flowing out. Water in the small river became static, that is a good condition to shoot a reflection photo.
Suan Luang Park – Bridge Reflection
They have a biggest park in Phuket town, called Suan Luang Park or or King Rama IX Park. It’s consists of a lake with fountains, green lawns and landscaped gardens, a children’s playground and a fitness area. Now, many locals come to the park in the late afternoon and early evening for jogging and aerobics. During weekends the park is quite busy with picnickers. Across of the lake built with a bridge, you can cross over to admire the lake view. Some of the lake is water storage for local people daily use.
Suan Luang Park contain a total of 140 acres (350 Rai) of land was converted in 1987. It’s to be an environmental conservation for His Majesty the King’s 60th birthday celebration. The park is a nice place to sit and read or even just watch everyone else being active.
Lake reflection, not always able to capture a perfect shot, sometime you need to wait for the windless. Weather also the element to decide the success of the reflection photography. Ripple is biggest enemy to shadow image, disperse it frequently.
My solution is applies the ND filter on the lens, create long exposure. The purpose of the ND filter is to reduce the light goes through the lens, slow down the shuttle speed. So that will make the water look freeze, produce more complete shape of the shadow image.
