James Bond Island - Phang Nga Bay
Why it calling James Bond Island? Sure, that was related to the James Bond movie, The Man with the Golden Gun publication in 1974. Ever since, it was inevitably becoming famous throughout Thailand and the world. This island is a small limestone cliff, vertical stand on the sea with 20 metres high. Its diameter ranging in the top around 8 metres and bottom around 4 metres. Before it calls James Bond Island, the original name is Koh Tapu or Nail Island, and it stands out in the middle of the bay of Koh Khao Ping Kan.
They have few ways to go there, you can go by long tail boat, cruise boat and speed boat. For this family trip, we rent a long tail boat, because can shuttle us to nearby some island, like Panyee Island and explore the landscape surrounding. Cruising with its stark natural beauty, you will head-over-heels in love with the place. Enormous limestone cliff with old-growth forests, this conservation area is worth to loop around. I strongly advise you to go with a tour guide, because they will be a nice intro to the region’s geography.
Khao Ping Kan Island
The James Bond Island not only Koh Tapu or Nail Island, it’s also included Khao Ping Kan Island. It’s consists of two forest-covered islands with steep shores. This island famous with it’s spectacular natural hills leaning against each other, also the meaning of this island name.
I’m curious, how it forms, why it becomes like this, what makes it? I have no idea about that, try looking at the incision, seem cut by something very sharp with very fast speed. In 1981, the island became the most famous part of the newly established Ao Phang Nga Marine National Park. Recently, even more tourist than ever to visit, especially the China tourist.
